Before you call

Questions people ask us first

Short answers to the things that come up on almost every first call.

What should I do first if I have been arrested?

Stay calm, say that you want a lawyer and then say nothing else about the case. Call us or have someone call for you.

Do you take every kind of criminal case?

No. We take assault, white-collar and juvenile cases, and we petition to seal or expunge records. For other charges, we say so on the first call and suggest someone to try.

How much does it cost?

We give you a fee in writing at the first meeting, before you pay anything. It covers what we will do and what it does not cover, such as expert witnesses or court costs.

Will you tell me what is likely to happen?

Yes, as honestly as we can. We never promise a dismissal or a not-guilty verdict, because no lawyer can.

Can my family call for me?

They can call for you and we will listen. We can only share details of your case with someone you have said we may talk to.

How soon will someone call me back?

We aim to call back the same business day. If it is urgent, say so in your message and call the office.

What if I cannot come to the office?

We can meet at a place that is easier for you or talk by phone or video, and we will tell you which one is safest for your case.

Is what I tell you private?

Once you have asked us to represent you, what you tell us is protected. Before then, please keep your messages general and call us.

Still not sure?

Call the office and tell us the charge and the court. If we are not the right fit, we will point you to someone who is.
